Abstract: Imaging surveys, such as the Dark Energy Survey, the Kilo-Degree Survey, the Hyper Suprime-Cam and, in the near future, the LSST at the Rubin Observatory and the Euclid space mission, constitute a powerful tool to constrain the expansion and growth history of the Universe at late times. Their cross-correlation with other observables, such as Cosmic Microwave Background secondary anisotropies, offers further opportunities to simultaneously constrain cosmological parameters as well as the thermal history of the baryonic components. On the other hand, in face of the rapid increase in statistical power, photometric surves need to tackle several sources of systematic uncertainty. In this talk I will present a summary of these challenges, together with a few avenues to address them, as well as a few novel science cases offered by the availability of these datasets in combination with ground-based CMB data.
