Axions are a popular dark matter candidate. They would not only solve the mystery behind dark matter but their existence could also explain the absence of CP violating effects in quantum chromodynamics. The Magnetized Disk and Mirror Axion eXperiment (MADMAX) is designed to search for axions around a mass of 100 μeV. It uses a stack of dielectric disks and a mirror to resonantly enhance the axion-photon coupling in a magnetic field. Its motivation and working principle are discussed and put in context of other axion experiments. Different MADMAX prototype setups are described and first results of a dark photon search as well as an axion search are shown.
