Skipper CCDs provide the ability to count individual photons and electrons over a large detector area.
New technology enables new discoveries. The CPC hosts vibrant communities focused on developing new ultra-sensitive detectors and advanced computational algorithms. The Fermilab Detector R&D group pushes the boundaries in silicon sensors, photo-detection, and readout electronics to enable future dark matter and dark energy experiments. Cosmic experiments produce large, complex data sets and the next big discovery may come from an advance in algorithms. The Fermilab Machine Learning group is focused on developing new algorithms to solve problems in fundamental physics.
