On the night of June 29, 2026 the Vera C. Rubin Observatory formally began the Legacy Survey of Space and Time. For the next 10 years, Rubin will observe the entire observable southern sky every few nights to create an ultra-wide, ultra-high-definition time-lapse movie of our Universe. This long-awaited milestone is the culmination of years of effort by thousands of people around the world. For Fermilab, the start of LSST marks an exciting milestone in a 35-year history of enabling groundbreaking optical and near-infrared survey experiments.
